RESOLUTION NO. 130889

 

Declaring the Streetcar Facility at 3rd and Holmes be named after E. Crichton “Kite” Singleton and directing appropriate signage be placed to reflect this naming.

 

WHEREAS, Mr. E. Crichton “Kite” Singleton has been a strong and active transit and urban leader in the Kansas City community and has established a reputation for excellence in architecture with consistent recognition by his peers, his clients, the media and the public; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton’s transit advocacy includes service on the Light Rail Advisory Committee of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority from 1991 to 1998, consulting on the Central Business Corridor Transit Plan from 1999 to 2001, service on the Citizens Light Rail Taskforce in 2007, and service as the Chair of the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance Board of Directors from 2011 to 2013; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton’s additional civic leadership includes service as the Chair of the City Planning Commission from 1973 to 1978, service on the City’s FOCUS Comprehensive Plan Housing Committee from 1992 to 1994, consulting on the City’s FOCUS Comprehensive Plan Northland Plan from 1996 to 1997, and service as the Chair of the City Brownfields Commission from 2000 to the present; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton has persisted in addressing the deterioration of our urban core, has built and renovated houses in the Volker and Columbus Park neighborhoods, and champions the urban core as an exciting place to live and work; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton has and continues to work with citizen leaders and the community in order to form consensus on new investment in public transit in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, in appreciation for his years of transit and urban advocacy to better the City, the Mayor and Council of Kansas City desire to recognize Mr. Singleton's accomplishments and contributions; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare the City’s Streetcar Facility at 3rd and Holmes be named the E. Crichton “Kite” Singleton Yard and direct that appropriate signage be placed to reflect this naming; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. E. Crichton “Kite” Singleton with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for his many years of service to our city.
