RESOLUTION NO. 060408

 

Authorizing the Mayor to apply for a U.S. Economic Development Administration construction grant for the Customs Clearing Facility in the Central Industrial District.

 

WHEREAS, the corridor to and from Kansas City and Mexico is developing into an efficient, secure way to move freight north and south; and

 

WHEREAS, the first phase to be developed in Kansas City is a customs clearing facility which will process exports to Mexico; and

 

WHEREAS, the facility is the first of its kind in the world; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council has previously committed funds for a portion of the construction costs for the facility; and

 

WHEREAS, the Economic Development Administration grant is sought to pay for the gap in financing; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor of Kansas City is hereby authorized to submit, in conjunction with Kansas City SmartPort, Inc., a pre-application to the U.S. Economic Development Administration for a $1,500,000.00 Grant to provide funding to finance the construction of the customs clearing facility, not covered by currently committed funds, and to file other documents as requested by the Economic Development Administration.
