RESOLUTION NO. 120701

 

Honoring the victims in Aurora, Colorado.

 

WHEREAS, tragedy struck Aurora, Colorado and the entire Nation in the early morning of Friday, June 20, 2012, when a gunman burst into a crowded movie theatre killing 12 people and injuring 58 others; and

 

WHEREAS, the police department, local hospitals and first responders of Aurora, Colorado are to be praised for handling this situation with the kind of strength, resolve, compassion and professionalism that gives the public strength during these difficult times; and

 

WHEREAS, we remember those who were injured or lost their lives, as they were loved as mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters, friends and neighbors; and

 

WHEREAS, we now offer a moment of silence in support of all of those who are suffering and were impacted by this tragedy; and

 

WHEREAS, we raise our heads and our hearts now, and together stand firm that senseless acts of grave violence will never detour the strong sense of community that bind us together and will never overpower the values that we all share; and

 

WHEREAS, we stand resolute with Aurora and send our deepest thoughts and prayers in their hour of need; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the victims in Aurora, Colorado; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mayor Steve Hogan and the City Council of Aurora, Colorado as a token of the sympathy and support felt by the City of Kansas City, Missouri over this tragic incident.
