RESOLUTION NO. 130100

 

Recognizing Pat Jordan as a recipient of the 2013 Missouri Arts Award.

 

WHEREAS, Pat Jordan is an advocate of Kansas City, Missouri’s African-American artistic heritage, a prime mover in the resurrection of the 1912 Gem Theater and currently a co-chair of the Mayor’s Task Force for the Arts; and

 

WHEREAS, the Missouri Arts Council awarded her the “Leadership in the Arts Award” on February 6, 2013 in Jefferson City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, the award recipients were selected from public nominations by an independent panel of Missourians who are distinguished representatives of the arts community throughout the state; and

 

WHEREAS, Pat Jordan is a lifelong Kansas Citian and has been president of the Gem Cultural and Educational Center for 22 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Pat Jordan was instrumental in leading the renovation and completion of the Gem Theater facility in 1997; and  

 

WHEREAS, Pat’s mission is to make the arts more accessible to the Urban Core by opening an art space at the Vine Street Studio in the 3rd District; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Pat Jordan for receiving the 2013 Missouri Arts Award; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Pat Jordan with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for her work with the Arts Community in Kansas City.
