RESOLUTION NO. 100388

 

Recognizing the week of May 2-9, 2010, as Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week.

 

WHERE, Women Build is a program of Habitat for Humanity and underwritten by Lowe’s which encourages women to address the crisis of families in poverty by putting their faith into action through building homes for families in need; and

 

WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program serves to move families out of poverty housing and create new hope and security that lasts for years to come; and

 

WHEREAS, Women Build makes homeownership a reality for families in need by training women volunteers to construct decent and affordable homes for families in need allowing women from all walks of life to help families build better futures for children; and

 

WHEREAS, to date, Women Build volunteers have worked on 1,650 homes in more than 30 countries in the world since 1991; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2010 theme for Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build is “Women in Advocacy” which refers to women speaking out and making positive changes in Kansas City on a variety of issues; and

 

WHEREAS, this year’s Women Build project in Kansas City will be a new home in the Habitat KC subdivision of Pritchard Place off of 66th Terrace just west of Research Hospital in Kansas City’s 5th District; and

 

WHEREAS, this year’s Kansas City Women Build crews will construct a second home in the Green Impact Zone in the Town Fork Creek neighborhood located in Kansas City’s 5th District; and

 

WHEREAS, the Women Build 2010 Groundbreaking will be held on Mothers’ Day, Sunday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m., at the Pritchard Place Subdivision on 66th Terrace just west of The Paseo; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the week of May 2-9, 2010, as Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to members of the Women Build 2010 crew with the support of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
