RESOLUTION NO. 990736

Declaring Saturday, May 22, 1999, as Gracemor Randolph Neighborhood Day.

WHEREAS, the Gracemor Randolph Neighborhood will celebrate its 5th annual celebration of their partnerships with a community parade and day of family activities; and

WHEREAS, a major focus of the Gracemor Randolph Community Council has been partnership building and they are a leader in establishing partnerships with businesses, school and civic organizations. Successful partnerships have been developed with Hunt Midwest Enterprises, Ford Motor Company, Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, Neighborhood Preservation and Gracemor Accelerated School to name a few; and

WHEREAS, the Gracemor Randolph Neighborhoods partnership with Gracemor Accelerated School is acknowledged as one of the most valuable by the entire community. The neighborhood came together at the school and found their common bond, the children. Soon senior citizens and other volunteers were at the school tutoring, eating lunch with students, playing board games after school and, best of all, developing relationships with the students. The school is now the center of the neighborhood, not because of the building but because that is where the children are; and

WHEREAS, many notable achievements have resulted from the partnerships, some of which include: increased resident involvement, development of Thursday Night Out and Parents of Preschool Children, ongoing neighborhood clean ups, providing summer teen activities for eleven years, including three years as a Hot Summer Nights site, providing major youth activities each year including Non Violent Solutions to Conflict, Youth as Trustees, Youth in Governance, and Doughnuts with Dad and facilitated a number of major property improvement projects for the residents, all of which strengthen the Gracemor Randolph Neighborhood; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 22, 1999, as Gracemor Randolph Neighborhood Day in Kansas City; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Gracemor Randolph Community Council in recognition of their leadership in helping to build a stronger and more responsible community for all its residents and helping organize the 5th annual community parade and day of family activities.
