RESOLUTION NO. 100709
Honoring
the Musketeer Civic Group for their Musketeer Tutorial Program.
WHEREAS,
eight years ago, a group of twelve men from the Kansas City community with
various backgrounds ranging from not-for-profit organizations, education, human
resources, and private business got together to form the Musketeer Civic Group;
and
WHEREAS,
the mission of the Musketeer Civic Group is to impact the quality of life
throughout the City by participating in community service projects, supporting
area youth, and collaborating with existing service organizations; and
WHEREAS,
the Musketeers wanted to make a positive impact on the community and began
providing groceries for families during the holidays and moved on to annual
fund raisers that awards $500.00 scholarships to five area students each year;
and
WHEREAS,
the Musketeers wanted to affect those with the “greatest need” and so
collaborated with LIFT and the Bethel Educational Development Center on a
tutorial program geared toward middle school students with an emphasis on
family engagement; and
WHEREAS,
this summer program is now in its second year and includes transportation,
school supplies, dinner, and a $100.00 stipend for middle school students who
complete the 12-week program; and
WHEREAS,
the twelve Musketeers include Jasper Hammock, Charlie Robinson, Walter
Youngblood, Fred James, Bill Threat, Alfred Allen, Frank James, Willie Reedit,
JT Brown, Johnny Walker, Reginald Mosby and Chuck James; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby honor the Musketeer Civic Group for their
Musketeer Tutorial Program; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof is presented to Chuck James
and the Musketeer Civic Group with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and
citizens of Kansas City for their outstanding support of the youth and families
in the community.
