RESOLUTION NO. 050360

 

Endorsing the American Public Health Associations National Public Health Week, to be recognized and celebrated in Kansas City, Missouri, thus advancing the work of the Kansas City Health Commission.

 

WHEREAS, National Public Health Week provides nations, states, cities, counties, and communities with an opportunity to promote the common good of public health; and

 

WHERAS, preventable health problems result in substantial costs to individuals, communities, and businesses; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Department and the community can work together regarding health education, early detection, and planning to stay healthy, to prevent many common health problems; and

 

WHEREAS, we live thirty years longer than we lived one-hundred (100) years ago; and

 

WHEREAS, we are living five (5) years longer due to improvements in illness care; and

 

WHEREAS, public health prevention measures have contributed more than twenty-five years (25) to our length of life by preventing or significantly delaying the onset of diseases; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby endorse the American Public Health Associations National Public Health Week, to be recognized and celebrated in Kansas City, Missouri, thus advancing the work of the Kansas City Health Commission; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Dr. Greg Laiben with the urging of the Mayor, Council and the Kansas City Health Commission to actively become involved in and/or initiate public health week activities, to be held April 4-10, 2005.
