RESOLUTION NO. 040881
Congratulating the Kansas
City Metro Junior Golf Club on hosting a successful first annual Jr. Golf
Tournament held on July 20-21, 2004.
WHEREAS, the
first annual Jr. Golf Tournament officially named Alvin Brooks Metro Jr. Golf
Classic was held on July 20-21, 2004 by the Kansas City Metro Junior Golf Club;
and
WHEREAS, 46
entries between the ages of 7-18 played with the golfers from Tulsa, Oklahoma
winning low medalist, both girls, boys individual championships and team best
ball; and
WHEREAS, the
Kansas City Metro Junior Golf Club came into existence because a group of
concerned parents asked how can we help urban youth stay in junior golf
programs; and
WHEREAS, after
several winter meetings, Kansas City Metro Golf Club, Inc., began life with the
Board of Directors being Brenda Curtright, Thomas Taylor, Karmen Bradley, Karen
Swift, Lewis Hurtt, Andre Penn, with the president being James E. Johnson and
executive director, James R. Johnson; and
WHEREAS, the
membership would be open to any youth 7-18 years old and it will be free; and
WHEREAS, next
year, the Kansas City Metro Junior Golf Club plans to have approximately 100
junior golfers for the tournament; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate the Kansas City Metro Junior Golf Club on
hosting a successful first annual Jr. Golf Tournament held on July 20-21, 2004;
and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to James John, Executive
Director, with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas
City for their outstanding achievements in keeping the youth of the community
involved in sports.
