RESOLUTION NO. 120960
Declaring
November 2012 as Diabetes Month in Kansas City and recognizing the launching of
LifeMap by the Fountain of Health and City Health Care Trust.
WHEREAS,
the vision of the American Diabetes Association is a life free of diabetes and
all its burdens and to raise the awareness of this ever-growing disease; and
WHEREAS,
nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and another
79 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2
diabetes with the estimated total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the
United States being $174 billion; and
WHEREAS,
the Fountain of Health in collaboration with the City Health Care Trust
launched Change for Life in September and in November is launching the key
program for the campaign called LifeMap; and
WHEREAS,
LifeMap is an ongoing personalized one-on-one support for employees diagnosed
with prediabetes or diabetes with the participants gaining knowledge based on
their current needs and being offered support by their own personal LifeGuide;
and
WHEREAS, the
goals of the Fountain of Health are to increase awareness about diabetes and
prediabetes as they are becoming more prevalent in the City and to encourage
employees and their families to either build on their healthy habits or create
new healthy habits; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council
hereby declare November 2012 as Diabetes Month in Kansas City and recognize the
launching of LifeMap by the Fountain of Health and City Health Care Trust; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof
and that a copy hereof be presented to Gwen Dunlap with the appreciation of the
Mayor and Council for the dedication and hard work being done to eliminate
diabetes and prediabetes in the community.
