RESOLUTION NO. 120123
Expressing the Mayor and City
Council’s support for TIGER 2012 Discretionary Grant Application, and the
City’s commitment to provide the local matching funds for the Downtown
Streetcar project through Transportation Development District funding; and
expressing the Mayor and City Council’s support for the project and application
submittal.
WHEREAS, the
U.S. Department of Transportation Fiscal Year 2012 Continuing Appropriations
Act of 2012 appropriated $500,000,000.00 to be awarded by the Department of
Transportation (“DOT”) for National Infrastructure Investments; and
WHEREAS, because
of the similarity in program structure to the appropriation for the
Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or “TIGER Discretionary
Grant” program, DOT is referring to the grants for National Infrastructure
Investments under the 2012 Appropriations Act as “TIGER 2012 Discretionary
Grants”; and
WHEREAS, a
Notice of Funding Availability for TIGER 2012 Discretionary Grants was
published in the Federal Register Volume 77, Number 20 on January 31, 2012,
indicating that awards will be made to projects having a significant impact on
the country, a metropolitan area or a region and may be used for up to eighty
percent (80%) of the costs of a project; and
WHEREAS, the
City is working on a TIGER 2012 Discretionary Grants application; and
WHEREAS, the
City has an approved Locally Preferred Alignment (LPA) and is continuing to
advance forward the Advanced Conceptual Engineering for the Downtown Streetcar;
and
WHEREAS, the
City will be the applicant requesting a $25,000,000.00 TIGER 2012 grant and providing
seventy-five percent (75%) matching funds, $73,000,000.00 of which will be
contributed through one or more Transportation Development Districts; and
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council support the TIGER 2012 Discretionary Grant application for the
Downtown Streetcar project to be filed by the City and are committed to $73,000,000.00
being contributed through one or more Transportation Development Districts.
