RESOLUTION NO. 090801

 

Expressing support for the six week City employees Start! Walking program which will increase the level of physical activity of City employees in order to improve the overall health of City employees.

 

WHEREAS, the American Heart Association has developed the Start! Walking program and is promoting it nationwide; and

 

WHEREAS, the Citys award winning Fountain of Health Wellness Program and the City supported Fitness Source fitness facility have agreed to partner with the American Heart Association to offer a number of convenient opportunities for all City employees to increase their level of physical activity in conjunction with the Start! Walking program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council is truly concerned about the health of each City employee; and

 

WHEREAS, countless medical studies have documented that the health benefits associated with walking regularly are legion; and

 

WHEREAS, improvements in the overall health of City employees produce savings in City health insurance costs that accrue to the benefit of all citizens of Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, a kick-off party for the Start! Walking program will be held at Fitness Source on September 22, 2009, starting at 11:00 a.m.; and

 

WHEREAS, the Start! Walking program will conclude on November 1, 2009; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby express its full support for City employees to participate in the Start! Walking program and challenge every City Department to form one or more walking teams to compete in the Start! Walking program; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Katy Lovill, the Citys Wellness Coordinator.
