RESOLUTION NO. 130888

 

Observing Veteran’s Day and honoring Burton D. Madison and American Legion Wayne Miner Post 149.

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City’s many brave and courageous veterans will be honored on Veteran’s Day at a number of ceremonies, services, and observances; and

 

WHEREAS, Burton D. Madison enlisted in the Army Air Core on November 25, 1942 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, attending aircraft mechanics and gunnery schools;

 

WHEREAS, Burton Madison was sent to the Second Air Division, 453rd Bomb Group 8th Air Force at Old Buckenham Air Field where he received the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his 30 missions; and

 

WHEREAS, American Legion Wayne Miner Post 149 is one of the oldest, largest and predominately African American posts in Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, Post 149 has been an advocate for the Welfare of Veterans, especially black veterans in Kansas City, Missouri, and supports the developers and sponsors of Saint Michael’s Village Development for Homeless Veterans; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council do hereby commend and honor our many brave men and women that have served and continue to serve our nation; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Burton D. Madison and American Legion Wayne Miner Post 149 with the encouragement of the Mayor and Council to have all Kansas Citians join in the observance of this day and thank those who have fought to protect our way of life.
