RESOLUTION NO. 160703
Declaring September 8-12, 2016, as the 2016
Kansas City Peace Pledge Tour and Leadership Summit.
WHEREAS, Kids for Peace creates
peace through youth leadership, community service, global friendships and
thoughtful acts of kindness; and
WHEREAS, Lucy’s Kids for Peace,
serving the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area, was created in 2012 to honor
the life and legacy of Lucy Weber, of Shawnee, Kansas, who lost her battle from
a brain tumor at the age of 17 months and who taught the world how to love and
be kind no matter the adversity or challenge; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, Kids for Peace chapters from across the world participated
in the first Peace Pledge Tour in Washington D.C. and, in 2013, they
participated in the second Peace Pledge Tour in New York City; and
WHEREAS, each Peace Pledge Tour
brings together all chapters of Kids for Peace to spread their message of
peace, love and kindness toward neighbors and strangers, and in
friendship-building among all Kids for Peace Chapters; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Kansas City
Metropolitan area, being a recognized metropolis thriving in its commitments to
art, service, community, environmental protections, culture, diversity, global
endeavors and youth leadership, mirrors the spirit and backbone of Kids for
Peace; and
WHEREAS, to celebrate Kansas
City’s commitments to the spirit and backbone of Kids for Peace, and to thank
Kansas City for its support of the Kids for Peace mission, Kansas City was
selected for the 2016 Peace Pledge Tour and Leadership Summit; and
WHEREAS, Kids for Peace chapters
from around the world proudly demonstrate their commitment to the Kids for
Peace mission by participating in the 2016 Kansas City Peace Pledge Tour and
Leadership Summit; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF
KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council do
hereby declare September 8-12, 2016, as the 2016 Kansas City Peace Pledge Tour
and Leadership Summit; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this
Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and
that a copy hereof be presented to Kids for Peace with the Mayor, Council and
citizens of Kansas City recognizing that kindness matters in the Greater Kansas
City Metropolitan Community, and beyond.
