RESOLUTION
NO. 190942
Honoring and acknowledging Emma Nye, a senior at
Staley High School, as one of the most
accomplished athletes in our city's history.
WHEREAS,
Emma Nye, who started her weightlifting career at the
early age of 11, won her first meet after 2-weeks
of practice and went on to dominate the youth division in Snatch, Clean and Jerk, and total
for the past 5-years in 4 different weight categories; and
WHEREAS,
Emma Nye who holds 5 USA Weightlifting
Youth National Championships and is a 32-time
American record holder in Olympic Weightlifting; and
WHEREAS,
Emma Nye has lifted for Team USA in the following International competitions:

2016 Pan American Youth Championships (Guatemala)
·
2017 IWF Youth World Championships (Tailand)
·
2018 Pan
American Youth Championships (Columbia)
·
2019 IWF Youth World Championships (United States)
·
2019 Pan
American Youth Championships (Equador);
and
WHEREAS,
Emma Nye showing her wide range of talents participated in the 2018 and 2019
Missouri Regional and state Cheerleader championships while earning a high school letter in cheerleading; and
WHEREAS,
Emma Nye, while competing at the highest level in her sports career maintained a 3.5 GPA that includes
21 college credits that will allow
her to enter college as
a sophomore; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL
OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and
Council hereby honor and congratulate
Emma Nye for her numerous individual accomplishments as well as her accomplishments
as a member of the Staley High School Cheerleading team; and
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the
Minutes of the Council in testimony
thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Emma Nye in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the dedication to her sport and her school.
