WHEREAS, Kim is now in remission and just celebrated her year anniversary on January 25, 2003; and

WHEREAS, over the past year, since Kim was diagnosed, while undergoing 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 4 surgeries, and treatment for lymphedema, Kim has served as a voice of inspiration, sharing her story and using her breast cancer diagnosis as an opportunity to help others become more educated about breast cancer and the importance of breast self-examinations; and

WHEREAS, Kim has written a journal about her experience and shared it with others; kept track of the number of women who are now checking their breasts because of her story (the number now exceeds 500 women); written numerous articles about breast cancer awareness for various publications, including the Kansas City Star; appeared on countless radio and television stations talking about breast cancer awareness; co-captained the largest community team (out of several hundred teams) for the Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure in Kansas City; and served on the Mayors for Mammograms Committee; and

WHEREAS, in October 2002 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kim spoke at the Missouri Governors Mansion for a Celebration of Survival Event; shared the stage with Katie Harmon, Miss America 2002, for a Building for the Cure Gala; and spoke at many other awareness events; and

WHEREAS, to accomplish all of this in a year, while battling breast cancer, working full-time revitalizing the Prospect Corridor, and being a loving wife and the mother of a 2-year old, is quite an inspiration; NOW, THEREFORE,
