RESOLUTION NO. 070299

 

Directing the City Manager to identify a source of a $50,000.00 commitment to the Citys participation in a neighborhood camera pilot project in conjunction with the Kansas City Police Department and the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission; and directing the City Manager to take the necessary steps to enter into that pilot project.

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission and the Kansas City Police Department seek partnership with the City in operating a pilot project by which a series of cameras will monitor public activity along a selected street; and

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of this project is to determine the crime fighting effectiveness of this technology; and

 

WHEREAS, it is important that new and innovative steps be taken to counter violent crime in our neighborhoods; NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to identify a source of funding in an amount of $50,000.00 for the purpose of participating with the Kansas City Police Department and the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission in a pilot project to install cameras along an identified street to determine the effectiveness of this law enforcement technique.

 

Section 2. That the City Manager is directed to take the necessary steps to participate in this pilot program.
