ORDINANCE NO. 020010

 

Designating Saint Marks Lutheran Church, generally located on the south side of Manheim Road between Harrison Boulevard and Troost Avenue (3800 Troost Avenue), a historic landmark.

 

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission held an advertised hearing on the designation of Saint Marks Lutheran Church, generally located on the south side of Manheim Road between Harrison Boulevard and Troost Avenue (3800 Troost Avenue), on September 22, 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission determined that the properties as a district have particular significance under Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation for evaluation in that it embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type and period in the development of Kansas City architecture; and

 

WHEREAS, Saint Marks Lutheran Church is representative of a unique property type and an organization that has a long history of contributions to the civic betterment of the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission unanimously recommended that Saint Marks Lutheran Church, generally located on the south side of Manheim Road between Harrison Boulevard and Troost Avenue (3800 Troost Avenue), be designated a historic landmark; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Plan Commission held an advertised public hearing on December 4, 2001, and unanimously recommended the designation of Saint Marks Lutheran Church as a historic landmark; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That Saint Marks Lutheran Church, generally located on the south side of Manheim Road between Harrison Boulevard and Troost Avenue (3800 Troost Avenue), and more specifically described as follows:

 

Lots 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13 and the north 20 feet of Lot 6, Regents Park, a subdivision in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

 

is hereby designated as a historic landmark.

 

Section 2. That the Council finds and declares that before taking any action on the proposed designation, all public notices and hearings required by law have been given and had.
