Establishing the Kansas City Health and Productivity Management Initiative.


WHEREAS, the City Council has identified competitiveness and efficiency as high priorities and agree that healthy employees are happier and more productive which benefits the community as a whole; and


WHEREAS, the City Council is committed to making Kansas City a great place to live and work and supports the employees need to establish a balance between work and family; and


WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City is committed to providing unparalleled service to its community and that commitment translates into the dedication, time, effort and efficiency of City employees; and


WHEREAS, the City recognizes that health and wellness is enhanced through worksite programs and policies that foster healthy life choices and those choices include balancing the demands of work and home; and


WHEREAS, enabling City employees to be healthy in body, mind and spirit is essential to improving personal and professional productivity to benefit the community as a whole which is consistent with the goals of the City Council; and


WHEREAS, the initiative would involve collaboration with the Human Resources Department, the Health Department, the Fire Department, the Citys Benefits Committee, the Citys Unions, area businesses, counties, municipalities and community-based health improvement programs to capitalize on everyones resources and integrating the interests of all stakeholders including insurers and healthcare providers; and


WHEREAS, the design of the voluntary program would measure the current level of employee health and productivity, while protecting the privacy of individuals, and use such data as a baseline for the development of work site programs to enhance or maintain the health of all City employees as part of the strategy of managing costs of medical benefits on a long term basis; NOW, THEREFORE,




That the Mayor and Council hereby establish the Kansas City Health and Productivity Management Initiative, led by the Human Resources Department, in recognition that health and productivity are an important part of the commitment to serving our community and making the City a great place to live and work.
