RESOLUTION NO. 951444

 

Honoring Anita Nixon a "Jewel" in our midst and designating October 19, 1995 as "Anita Nixon Day".

 

WHEREAS, Anita was raised in Cole Camp, Missouri, has lived in the Westport area for many years. She worked in California during World War II and she returned to Missouri to raise her family, a son, Richard, daughter-in-law, Debbie, and two grandchildren, Amanda and Phillip; and

 

WHEREAS, Anita has been an active leader in civic affairs in Kansas City and surrounding areas. She has served as Mayor Pro Tem of the Silver Haired City Council and was a member for several years; and

 

WHEREAS, Anita was awarded a certificate of nomination for the "Everyday Hero" award by the Division of Aging, Missouri Department of Social Services, Jefferson City, Missouri. She is past President of the Westport/Roanoke Community Council, Inc. She served as an officer of Landlords Association with honors award. She has been an officer of Coleman Highland Neighborhood Association, as well as the 5th Ward Republican Club for many years; and

 

WHEREAS, Anita has benefitted Kansas City in many ways, always willing to make things better for the citizens with the purpose of benefitting them to have a better life. She has always been able to analyze problems and come up with a workable solution. To quote a line from an award previously given Anita, "The word has gone forth to all Missourians about the "Jewel" in our midst and we are proud to call her ours."; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Anita Nixon their most heartfelt appreciation for the service, leadership, care and encouragement she has imparted to our community and hereby designate October 19, 1995, as "Anita Nixon Day"; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Anita Nixon with the best wishes of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
