RESOLUTION NO. 990392
Welcoming
the National Association of Basketball Coaches to Kansas City.
WHEREAS,
the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) is planning to move their
national office to Kansas City in the year 2000; and
WHEREAS,
goals and objectives of the NABC include promoting the ideals of integrity,
sportsmanship and teamwork, unifying coaches on issues pertaining to
basketball, addressing needs of the coach professionally, emotionally,
financially, physically and spiritually, and enlightening the general public;
and
WHEREAS,
the NABC has more than 4,800 members which include coaches from NCAA, NAIA,
junior college and high school; and
WHEREAS,
some of the components of the NABC move to Kansas City will include an annual
national marquee game involving top Division 1 mens competition, a coaches
museum (Hall of Fame), annual induction dinner and golf tournament that would
help raise money for the museum and Coaches vs. Cancer (the NABCs main
charity); NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby welcome the National Association of Basketball
Coaches to Kansas City; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council and that a copy hereof be presented to the National Association of
Basketball Coaches in token of the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and
citizens of Kansas City for the planned move to Kansas City and the positive
effect it will bring to the entire metropolitan region.
