RESOLUTION NO. 160327

 

Honoring John P. Summers on the occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of Christmas in October.

 

WHEREAS, John began his career with Christmas in October as a Volunteer lead, and then became the Executive Director; and

 

WHEREAS, under his leadership Christmas in October coordinated over 28,000 volunteers to 2,400 homeowners in the metro area repair their homes; and

 

WHEREAS, John led teams to renovate the Cristo Rey School, the Westside Can Center, and the Veterans Administration Kansas City Honors Annex; and

 

WHEREAS, John is a Kansas City native, he is married to his wife Lynda and has three children and two grandchildren; and

 

WHEREAS, Christmas in October will be celebrating 33 years of rebuilding houses, lives and neighborhoods in the Greater Kansas City Area and whose mission is to bring volunteers and the communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income, elderly, disabled, and Veteran homeowners; NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the purposeful and equitable service of John P. Summers, which greatly advanced the public well-being and economic vitality of Kansas City and the heartiest best wishes for his future, together with their most sincere appreciation for his years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kansas City, and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the family, friends, and coworkers of John P. Summers in token of their respect and high regard and their best wishes for a long and happy retirement which he so richly deserves with his wife, Lynda, children and grandchildren.
