RESOLUTION NO. 061126

 

Recognizing Ailey Coe Pope on her many contributions to the youth of the world.

 

WHEREAS, Ailey Coe Pope is 16 years old and has traveled to 4 continents and 14 countries; and

 

WHEREAS, Ailey attended the 10th annual Peace Jam Conference with the Dali Lama, the Archbishop Desmond Tutu and 10 other Nobel peace lariautes where they spoke about peace and how to obtain peace worldwide and what youth should be doing in the next ten years to move towards peace; and

 

WHEREAS, Ailey traveled to China for the 50th anniversary of People to People Student Ambassador program and represented the United States in China to help bridge the gap and create friendship and understanding; and

 

WHEREAS, Ailey is a poet, activist and present of the Aggressive Teens on a Mission (A.T.O.M.) and has worked on AIDS awareness in Ghana, West Africa where she stood at the point of no return; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2006, Ailey taught poetry at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater in Denver, Colorado; and

 

WHEREAS, Ailey is a noted national and international poet, writing about immigration rights, womens dignity and todays teenage issues; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Ailey Coe Pope on her many contributions to the youth of the world; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Ailey Coe Pope with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council for her continued pledge to bring peace to the world.
