RESOLUTION NO. 180278

Honoring the 25th anniversary of The Roasterie.

WHEREAS, Mr. O’Neill in 1993 launched Kansas City’s first locally owned coffee roaster, The Roasterie. Since its inception Mr. O’Neill has added eight café locations and one drive-thru across the metro to The Roasterie’s factory production location, creating jobs and revenue for the City of Kansas City and a foundation for a robust coffee culture; and

WHEREAS, Mr. O’Neill and The Roasterie have won myriad national and international awards in the coffee world as the world’s best coffee, bringing awareness to Kansas City as an advanced coffee civilization; and

WHEREAS, The Roasterie’s factory has given thousands of tours for a behind-the-scenes experience of roasting and cupping coffee, plus canning Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew coffee. The tour consistently ranks as one of the most popular tourist activities in Kansas City and the three state region; and

WHEREAS, The Roasterie topped it’s factory location in 2012 with a historic DC-3 aircraft which has become an iconic part of the KC Skyline, symbolizing Kansas City’s aviation history and the spirit of adventure in the progressive coffee society of Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, The Roasterie has given back to the community by developing relationships with small batch farms and co-ops, supporting community and daycare centers in Brazil, Costa Rica and Columbia, donating thousands of pounds of coffee to area nonprofits, events and community activities, creating Cause Blend a program partnership that helps organizations develop their own blend and sell it for profit and finally Mr. O’Neill’s solo 8,000 mile Arctic Circle ride to raise awareness and $25,000.00 for Variety KC and its kids to purchase 12 adaptive bikes; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council do hereby congratulate Danny O’Neill and The Roasterie on the occasion of their 25th anniversary and service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri and its residents; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Danny O’Neill in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for his years of dedicated service and with their best wishes for continued success.
