ORDINANCE NO. 030272

 

Amending Chapter 62 of the Code of Ordinances, entitled Solid Waste, by enacting a new Section 62-55 therein providing for fees for collection and disposal of used appliances containing refrigerant and for disposal of leaves and brush from residences.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section A. That Chapter 62 of the Code of Ordinances, entitled Solid Waste, is hereby amended by enacting therein a new Section 62-55 providing for fees for collection and disposal of used appliances containing refrigerant and for disposal of leaves and brush from residences within the City, said section to read as follows:

 

Sec. 62-55. Fees.

 

(a) The director may provide for the collection of used appliances designed to contain or which have contained refrigerant and may establish and assess a fee not to exceed $60.00 per appliance for the proper removal and disposal of any refrigerant contained therein and for disposal of the appliance.

 

(b) The director may provide areas or sites where residents of the city may dispose of leaves and brush waste generated on eligible residential property and may assess a fee of not more than $25.00 per vehicle load for disposal of leaves and brush at any such site. The director may establish rules for users of such sites and a graduated fee schedule based upon the size and type of vehicle used to transport the waste and the amount presented for disposal. In addition to the foregoing disposal areas or sites, the director may provide for the curbside collection and disposal of leaves and brush waste generated on residential property, establish rules for users of such service, and assess for such service a fee of not more than $1.25 per bundle or bag of leaves or brush waste.

 

(c) A schedule of the fees established by the director pursuant to this section shall be maintained and made available to the public in the office of the director of Environmental Management.
