RESOLUTION NO. 001426

 

Honoring Julie E. Levin on receiving the John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award.

 

WHEREAS, in April, 2000, Julie Levin was awarded the John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award in Seattle, Washington from the American Bar Association, Litigation Section; and

 

WHEREAS, the John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award was established in 1990 by the American Bar Association Section of Litigation and the recipients of this award have made outstanding contributions to the equality of justice in their communities, ensuring that the legal system is open and available to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Julie works for Legal Aid of Western Missouri providing outstanding advocacy on behalf of the indigent and disadvantaged; and

 

WHEREAS, one of Julies most notable accomplishments is the almost total reformation of public housing in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Julie has been awarded the Public Housing Resident Council Award for Service in 1995 and 1997, the National Lawyers Guild Award for Social and Economic Justice in 1995, the Missouri Association for Social Welfare Award in 1993 and the Chouteau Court Resident Management Corporation Awards for Service in 1990, 1991 and 1992; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Julie E. Levin on receiving the John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Julie E. Levin in token of the high esteem with which she is held in the hearts and minds of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her many contributions to the community.
