RESOLUTION NO. 001545
Recognizing
and congratulating Ahmad Alaadeen, a statewide winner of the 2000 Governors
Humanities Award.
WHEREAS,
Ahmad Alaadeen is a master performer of jazz saxophone, but also an exemplary
teacher and mentor for aspiring jazz musicians and a most deserving winner of
the 2000 Governors Humanities Awards presented by the Missouri Humanities
Council; and
WHEREAS,
Alaadeen is known as an exacting musician and an extremely fair band leader and
co-worker with respect for Kansas City jazz history, and, in particular, the
role played by Black musicians in a music form that swept the nation and world,
the Kansas City swing; and
WHEREAS,
at a time in his life where a musician might be entirely self-focused or in
retirement, Alaadeens energy goes to performing in schools and bringing
musicians up by working with them in his band, giving them hands-on
professional experience; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Ahmad Alaadeen for his
contributions to Kansas City jazz and being a statewide winner of the 2000
Governors Humanities Award; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Ahmad
Alaadeen in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for his
contributions to Kansas City jazz and as a mentor for aspiring jazz musicians.
