RESOLUTION NO. 090903

 

Honoring the Economically Distressed Areas Economic Development Task Force, also known as the Mayors New Tools Task Force, for their outstanding work.

 

WHEREAS, the Mayors New Tools Task Force was established to create and support self-sufficient, self-sustaining communities with unlimited potential and opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS, the Task Force engaged the entire community, focused on community assets rather than needs, shared bold community visions, and made recommendations to the Mayor and Council; and

 

WHEREAS, some of the recommendations include creating a framework to support community development projects in the New Tools District , building wealth in the District, retaining and expanding existing businesses, developing a world class work force and creating a culture of entrepreneurship, creating the Community Development Credit Union, and improving, utilizing and benefiting from existing incentives and programs; and

 

WHEREAS, the citizen members of the Task Force are: Ajamu Webster (Chair), Mike Chesser (Vice-Chair), Stan Archie, Bobbi Baker, Robert Barrientos, Alvin Brooks, E. Frank Ellis, Robbie Herndon, Henry Johnson, Pat Jordan, Sidney King, Roxsen Koch, Benny Lee, Frank Lenk, Steve McDowell, Tony Oppenheimer, Bernardo Ramirez, Will Royster, Antwaun Smith, Williams Z. Suo, Linwood Tauheed, Kerry Welch, Carla M. Williams, Ray Wilson, Ron Yaffe and A. Marie Young;

 

WHEREAS, Councilmembers Deb Hermann, Terry Riley, Sharon Sanders-Brooks and John Sharp were also members of the Task Force; and

 

WHEREAS, numerous volunteers in the community, such as Spark Bookhart, contributed their expertise, enthusiasm, and countless hours to the work of the Task Force; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council do hereby honor the Economically Distressed Areas Economic Development Task Force, also known as the Mayors New Tools Task Force, and other community volunteers for their outstanding work; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the Economically Distressed Areas Economic Development Task Force with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the many hours given to the Task Force and their dedication to serving the community.
