RESOLUTION NO. 171021

 

Honoring Mr. Elmer Jackson for his dedicated service as a Board Member of the American Jazz Museum.

WHEREAS, Elmer Jackson has served on the board of the American Jazz Museum from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2017, Acting Board Chair from 2009 to 2010, served as Board Chair from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2012 and chaired the Human Resources Committee from May 1, 2012 to December 31, 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, under his leadership as the Board Chair he developed and implemented a performance management process for the executive director and staff, revised HR Policies/Procedures contained in the AJM Employment Manuel in compliance with current labor laws, held the 2nd Annual Vine Street Boogie Auction and Benefit Fundraiser that raised $50,000.00, developed and implemented of the “PEER Into the Future” funding plan based on the Bevevon Model that increased individual giving to the AJM, began the AJM Strategic Planning Process with the first BOD offsite session entitled “Leadership Visioning and Planning Readiness”, effectively raised awareness on the importance of the AJM to the City resulting in less severe subsidy cuts in 2010, 2011 and 2012, sponsored a revived and rebranded “Rhythm & Ribs 18th & Vine Jazz and Blues Festival” that netted a small profit, collaborated with the Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City and the Mattie Rhodes Center in exhibiting “ Atlantic Diaspora: The Musical and Social Influences of Africans in Mexico and the United States” in the AJM Changing Gallery, exhibited Ed Dwight’s “Evolution of Jazz”, Harold Smith’s “Colors of Jazz” , and “Reflections of Jazz” featuring works by various visual artists, in the AJM Changing Gallery, and had positive net income on 8 of 10 Jammin’ at the Gem Concerts during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons; and

 

WHEREAS, Elmer is passionate about Jazz and has a vast knowledge of the genre as a true American Art form and is a dedicated collector of Jazz music; and

 

WHEREAS, Elmer has been faithful to his duties always showing his dedication, spirit, and commitment to the American Jazz Museum; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor and congratulate Mr. Elmer Jackson for his exemplary service to the American Jazz Museum; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Elmer Jackson in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for his many years of dedicated service and their best wishes.
