RESOLUTION NO. 050110
Declaring the week of February
6-12, 2005, as Burns Awareness Week and commending the Shriners Hospitals for
Children for the care and contribution they provide for young burn victims.
WHEREAS, severe
burn injuries are a leading cause of death and injury in the United States, especially among young children; and
WHEREAS, every
year more than 2 million people suffer burn injuries of some kind, and more
than one of every three burn victims are children; and
WHEREAS,
approximately 75 percent of all burn injuries and deaths are preventable; and
WHEREAS, the
Shrine of North America and Shriners Hospitals join with other burn facilities
across the nation in recognizing the seriousness of this hazard and the urgent
need to educate the public about burn prevention and fire safety; and
WHEREAS, it is
fitting and appropriate to acknowledge the contributions of the Shrine of North
America and to commend the Shriners for their continued support and care for
young burn victims; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby declare the week of February 6-12, 2005, as Burns Awareness
Week; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and copies hereof be presented to Hank DeVry,
Potentate of Ararat Shrine, Robert Turner, Chairman of Ararats hospital
program, Chuck Zuvers, Public Relations Chairman, and George Wilkerson, Public
Relations.
