ORDINANCE NO. 960559
Designating Coleman Highlands, generally bounded by
Southwest Trafficway on the east, 35th Street on the south, 31st Street on the
north and those properties on the west side of West Coleman Road on the west, a
historic district.
WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission held an advertised
hearing on the designation of Coleman Highlands, generally bounded by
Southwest Trafficway on the east, 35th Street on the south, 31st Street on the
north and those properties on the west side of West Coleman Road on the west,
on February 23, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission determined that
the properties as a district have particular significance for their reflection
of Kansas City's middle class, residential development in the first decade of
the 20th Century, their identifiable character and their retention of
integrity; and
WHEREAS, the district consists of 298 properties of
which 31 are non-contributing; and
WHEREAS, Coleman Highlands is eligible for
designation under Criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places
Criteria for Evaluation; and
WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission unanimously
recommended that Coleman Highlands, generally bounded by Southwest Trafficway
on the east, 35th Street on the south, 31st Street on the north and those
properties on the west side of West Coleman Road on the west, be designated a
historic district; and
WHEREAS, the City Plan Commission held an advertised
public hearing on April 2, 1996, and recommended the designation of Coleman
Highlands as a historic district; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That Coleman Highlands, generally
bounded by Southwest Trafficway on the east, 35th Street on the south, 31st
Street on the north and those properties on the west side of West Coleman Road
on the west, more specifically described as follows:
All of Lots 1-34, inclusive, except the east 15 feet
of Lot 23 and the east 15 feet of the north 35 feet of Lot 24; all of Lots
36-43, inclusive, except the east 15 feet of Lot 42 and the east 15 feet
of Lot 43; all of Lots 47-55, 57-217, the south 25 feet of Lot 245, all of
Lots 246 and 247, Lot 254, all of Lots 256-310, except that part dedicated
for 34th Street by Ordinance No. 55812, all of Lots 312-328, inclusive, in
Coleman Highlands, a subdivision in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.
be designated a historic district.
Section 2. That the Council finds and declares that
before taking any action on the proposed designation, all public notices and
hearings required by law have been given and had.
