RESOLUTION NO. 010242

 

Declaring February 10, 2001, as St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Celebrating African American History Day.

 

WHEREAS, on February 10, 2001, St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church will honor Reverend Willie G. Bailey, Sr., and Brother Roy May. The guest speaker is Bishop John R. Bryant, presiding Fifth District Prelate of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and Fifth District Councilman Terry M. Riley is the Master of Ceremony; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Bailey has been a loyal and faithful servant of the African Methodist Episcopal Church for over thirty-four years and entered the ministry in 1965; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Bailey retired from active ministry in 1996 and then joined Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1991 where he continues to faithfully serve; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother May has been a member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church since 1991 and has served faithfully as president of the Usher Board for 10 years and member of the Trustee Board for the past several years; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother May is a loyal and faithful member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare February 10, 2001, as St John African Methodist Episcopal Church as Celebrating African American History Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Reverend Willie G. Bailey, Sr., Brother Roy May and to St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in token of the genuine respect and appreciation in which the Church and congregation is held and wishing them continued success.
