RESOLUTION NO. 010166

Recognizing Chuck and Beatrice Chionuma for establishing the Victor Chionuma Foundation and never letting Victors light go out.

 

WHEREAS, Chuck and Beatrice Chionuma established the Victor Chionuma Foundation in honor of their son, Victor Chionuma, who died at the age of 9 on October 12, 2000, of viral myocarditis; and

 

WHEREAS, viral myocarditis is a rare disorder, which effects approximately 8 out of 100,000 people; and

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Victor Chionuma Foundation is to raise awareness of myocarditis and to support efforts towards development of a preventative vaccine for myocarditis; and

WHEREAS, the Victor Chionuma Foundation brought a world renowned expert on myocarditis, Dr. Steven Tracy, a Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and part of the Enterovirus Research Laboratory, to Kansas City in the hopes of learning more about myocarditis and to share this information with the community; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby commend Chuck and Beatrice Chionuma for establishing the Victor Chionuma Foundation and appreciate their tireless effort, dedication and leadership to raise awareness of myocarditis and support development of a preventative vaccine for myocarditis; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Chuck and Beatrice Chionuma in recognition of their exceptional dedication and leadership to raise awareness and support development of a preventative vaccine for myocarditis.
