RESOLUTION NO. 070185

Honoring Officer Marlon Buie for a career of service to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and to the Mayors he has so carefully protected.

WHEREAS, Marlon Buie joined the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department in 1986, and has served honorably and well since that time; and

WHEREAS, during his twenty-year tenure with the department, Officer Buie has served in several capacities, most notably providing protection and security for Mayors Kay Barnes and Emanuel Cleaver; and

WHEREAS, prior to his mayoral security assignment, Officer Buie served as a Field Training Officer and was responsible for the complete training of police recruits in all aspects of their work. In the course of his career, Officer Buie received many honors, most notably the Distinguished Service Medal for life-saving and thirty-eight letters of commendation for exemplary work; and

WHEREAS, Marlon Buie has served this City, its residents and two of its mayors in a fashion that epitomizes the utmost professionalism. He is at once kind and fearless, humble and strong. He has made a challenging, demanding job appear almost effortless, and he has pursued this job with a sense of unequaled dedication. Marlon Buie has protected the Mayor with great care and loyalty, and in so doing, he has earned the profound respect of all who know him; and

WHEREAS, Marlon Buie has been named the Director of Security for the Sprint Center, an endeavor for which he is particularly well-qualified. We wish him well as he accepts this new challenge; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CUONCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Officer Marlon Buie their gratitude and appreciation for a career of service to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and to the Mayors he has so carefully protected. This appreciation is given to Officer Buie with respect and with best wishes for continuing success; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Marlon Buie with appropriate recognition and honor.
