RESOLUTION NO. 021434

Congratulating Carol S. Marinovich, Mayor of the Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County on being chosen one of the Public Officials of the Year 2002 by Governing magazine.

WHEREAS, Carol Marinovich, Unified Government Mayor of Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County, has been designated one of the nations foremost public leaders by Governing magazine and is a recipient of its Public Officials of the Year award for 2002; and

WHEREAS, the editors of the respected magazine of states and localities identified a significant theme among the winners of the prestigious awardsthey saw big impact, limited resources, tough odds and very often a decision to grab the initiative simply because the job was there to be done. Carol Marinovich has proven she can get the job done; and

WHEREAS, since her election as mayor in 1995, Carol S. Marinovich has proven herself to be capable, in the words of the editors, of stepping forward to deal with the problems others considered too difficult to solve. As a problem solver and a visionary leader for the region, Marinovich has done her utmost to serve Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mayor Marinovich, Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County have experienced significant improvements and progress in areas ranging from downtown renovation to neighborhood revitalization to the construction of the highly successful Kansas Speedway; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the Public Officials of the Year award, Mayor Marinovich recently received the Excellence in Local Government Award from the League of Kansas Municipalities; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of Kansas City, Missouri, are proud to know Mayor Carol Marinovich and happy to call her neighbor. Her leadership and commitment are inspirations to all who seek to serve the public; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express respectful congratulations to Carol S. Marinovich, Mayor of the Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County on being chosen one of the Public Officials of the Year 2002 by Governing magazine; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mayor Carol S. Marinovich as a token of the great esteem in which she is held by the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
