RESOLUTION NO. 011764

 

Honoring John T. Tangeman for more than 33 years of outstanding service to Kansas City on the occasion of his retirement from the Housing and Community Development Department.

 

WHEREAS, John Tangeman has been Director of Planning for the Kansas City, Missouri, Department of Housing and Community Development and is retiring after 33 years of service to the City and its citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, John joined the Citys Model Cities Program in 1968 and served that department with distinction in several capacities including Assistant Director; and

 

WHEREAS, John continued his commitment to public service to the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri, when he joined the City Managers Office in 1975 to assist in managing and implementing the Community Development Block Grant Program since its inception; and

 

WHEREAS, since 1975, John has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the Bi-State Empowerment Zone, the Westside Business Park, the 18th &Vine Housing and Commercial Development, the Bruce R. Watkins Drive, both the Citadel and Renaissance Place subdivisions and noted work with the development and growth of the Community Development Corporations in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Johns dedication to the community is further exemplified by his service to the City-wide Childcare Network, Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Vestry, as Board President of the Mental Health Association of the Heartland, Board Member of Bishop Spencer Place and as a founding Board Member of the Community Housing Network; and

 

WHEREAS, John has had the unconditional support of his loving wife, Carolyn Stockwell Tangeman, and their two wonderful children, Anne and Jeffery, during his years of public service to the citizens of Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their heartiest congratulations to John Tangeman on his retirement after 33 years of City service and extend to John Tangeman and his family their sincere thanks and gratitude and wish he and his family the best of luck in the future and many years of happiness in retirement; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to him in token of the respect and genuine gratitude of the Mayor and Council for his outstanding service to the City.
