RESOLUTION NO. 010201
Honoring Oretha T. Hunt
for her many years of volunteer services to the citizens of Kansas City,
Missouri.
WHEREAS, Oretha
Thomas Hunt moved with her family in early 1950 to Kansas City, Missouri, where
she graduated from Lincoln High School; and
WHEREAS, in the
early 1990's, Mrs. Hunt adopted a vocational rehabilitation center at
Christmas time and prepared and served food and refreshments to over 80 workers
and staff, as well as purchasing and gift-wrapping presents for each of the
workers and staff members; and
WHEREAS, Mrs.
Hunt currently serves as the Black Captain for 36th & 37th and Montgall
Avenue where through her leadership the neighborhood has participated in
initiatives such as Clean Sweep, FOCUS, community policing, paint projects and
weatherization programs; and
WHEREAS, Mrs.
Hunt also serves with the East Area coalition, Oak Park Association and the CAN
Team for the East Area; and
WHEREAS, in
recognition of her selfless activism and servant spirt, Mrs. Hunt was
recognized for her contributions by the Greater Kansas City Womens Foundation
in 1999 and was recognized by the Jackson County Prosecutors Office for her
community activism in 2000; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate and honor Oretha T. Hunt for her dedicated
services to the community and citizens of Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Oretha T. Hunt with
the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her many
volunteer services.
