Recognizing the first three neighborhoods selected for the Notable Neighborhood Award.

WHEREAS, the Notable Neighborhood Award is a new tool to recognize outstanding neighborhoods on a quarterly basis. Three to six neighborhoods will be recognized for their outstanding activities, for ongoing efforts for improving or sustaining quality of life in neighborhoods or any other special noteworthy efforts; and

WHEREAS, Cooley Highlands Community Council takes advantage of City services by involving residents of all ages in community efforts; the youth participate in Hot Summer Nights and senior citizens through community center activities; and

WHEREAS, the East 23rd Street PAC had a very successful clean-up, which included the removal of 3,000 tires, filling 22-40 yard dumptsters, painting four homes occupied by widows, and working with Minute Circle on obtaining their Kid Safety Grant; and

WHEREAS, the Original Loma Vista Neighborhood Association has reorganized and had successful participation with Clean Sweep and the Mayors Clean and Green; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the Cooley Highlands Community Council, the East 23rd Street PAC, and the Original Loma Vista Neighborhood Association upon their selection for the Notable Neighborhood Award; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the Cooley Highlands Community Council, the East 23rd Street PAC, and the Original Loma Vista Neighborhood Association in recognition of their exceptional efforts to improve and sustain the quality of life in their neighborhoods.
