COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 980861

 

Requesting the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners to rename Elmwood Lake on Brush Creek in the Brush Creek corridor as The Enshriners Lake.

 

WHEREAS, prior to 1981 a group of philanthropic citizens gathered together for the purpose of forming a public service organization, which they named The Enshriners, dedicated to community-based fund raising for the development and encouragement of initiatives, programs, and projects for the citizens of Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, The Enshriners has been instrumental in providing valuable public service for funding and encouraging community support for many special projects including the Parks and Recreation projects Going to Kansas City Monument, the Junior Golf Academy, Hawthorne Park, renovation of Satchel Paige Memorial Stadium, Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, the Arrington Bubble Klice Memorial Fund, the Brush Creek Water feature, the Kugel Ball Floating Granite Fountain and the Spirit of Freedom Fountain; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council desires to recognize and show appreciation for the laudable efforts of The Enshriners, past, present and future to provide community-based funding and support for initiatives, programs and projects which enhance the quality of life in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners has under its management and control Elmwood Lake on Brush Creek in the Brush Creek corridor; and

 

WHEREAS, Satchel Paige Stadium, Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center and the Spirit of Freedom Fountain are located on or near Elmwood Lake on Brush Creek in the Brush Creek corridor; NOW THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Council does hereby request that the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners rename Elmwood Lake on Brush Creek as The Enshriners Lake in recognition of and in appreciation for the efforts and accomplishments of The Enshriners for the citizens of Kansas City.
