RESOLUTION NO. 990069

Recognizing Tommy Amico for his work with TEENS T.A.P. - Teens Teaching AIDS Prevention.

WHEREAS, TEENS T.A.P. - Teens Teaching AIDS Prevention - is a national hotline under the direction of Good Samaritan Project focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention; and

WHEREAS, two teenagers are infected every hour of the day in the United States with 1,000 worldwide daily which brought about an understanding of the need for AIDS education to teenagers; and

WHEREAS, TEENS T.A.P. is a peer-to-peer educational program that allows teenagers throughout the United States to access a 1-800 number which teens may call between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Central Time; and

WHEREAS, teens report to Good Samaritan Project daily to staff the hotline and there are over 450 TEENS T.A.P. volunteers at this time from throughout the metropolitan areas of Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas; and

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Tommy Amico on his commitment and service to TEENS T.A.P.; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Tommy Amico in appreciation of his work, support and commitment to our community.
