Designating the Paseo High School, 4747 Flora, an historic landmark. (65683)

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission held an advertised hearing on the designation of Paseo High School on March 28, 1990; and

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission determined that the property has particular architectural, cultural and historic significance; and

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission determined that the property is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our local history, known as criterion "A" of the National Register of Historic Places; and

WHEREAS, this criterion relates to the property's significance for its contribution to the early development of the high school building in Kansas City, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission determined that the property embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period and method of construction, known as criterion "C" of the National Register of Historic Places; and

WHEREAS, this criterion relates to the property's architectural significance as it was the only Collegiate Gothic stone school built in Kansas City, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission considered the allegations of economic hardship by the representatives of the property owner and determined that substantial hardship did not exist in view of the overall cost of the capital improvements program of the property owner and the savings associated with renovation of the property; and

WHEREAS, the Landmarks Commission unanimously recommended that the Paseo High School be designated as an historic landmark; and

WHEREAS, the City Plan Commission held an advertised public hearing on June 5, 1990 and unanimously recommended the designation as an historic landmark; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the Paseo High School, 4747 Flora, more specifically described as:

be designated an historic landmark.

Section 2. That the Council finds and declares that before taking any action on the proposed designation, all public notices and hearings required by law have been given and had.
