RESOLUTION NO. 070511

Recognizing and expressing appreciation to the Honorable Bonnie Sue Cooper for her service as At-Large Councilmember from the Second District.

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Bonnie Sue Cooper has proudly served as the At-Large Councilmember from the Second District since her election in 1999 and reelection in 2003; and

WHEREAS, she has given immense contributions of her time and talents to the City of Kansas City throughout the years, by serving as Chair of the Legislative, Rules and Ethics Committee; as a member of the Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee; and as a member of the International Committee; and

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Cooper had dedicated herself to public service by representing the citizens of Clay and Platte County as a state representative for 18 years before her election to the City Council; and

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Cooper has further served the City of Kansas City as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Kansas City, Missouri-Mexico / Global Trade and Business Corporation, and in that role she has enhanced trade, tourism and friendship between Kansas City and Mexico and is recognized in the Hispanic business community as Kansas Citys ambassador to Mexico; and

WHEREAS, she has represented the citizens of Kansas City zealously by her commitment to free enterprise, economic development, international trade, the role of women in society, basic services, comprehensive land use planning and development and economic expansion; and

WHEREAS, all citizens of Kansas City have benefited from her dedicated service and the Council desires to express its deep appreciation for her eight years of committed service; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their heartfelt appreciation for the countless hours and dedicated service that Councilwoman Bonnie Sue Cooper has selflessly given to Kansas City and its citizens as At-Large Councilmember from the Second District; and Councilmember; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council as testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Councilwoman Bonnie Sue Cooper as a token of the high esteem in which she is held.
