RESOLUTION NO. 001389

 

Declaring support and endorsement of Public Works pursuit of voluntary accreditation.

 

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department states in its Creed that its foremost concern is to provide quality and timely service to the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri, by continually improving its delivery of services; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department is seeking to enhance its effectiveness through achieving voluntary accreditation from the American Public Works Association which is located in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department has formed an accreditation steering committee which will oversee adherence to the processes and procedures laid out by the American Public Works Association for attainment of voluntary accreditation; and

 

WHEREAS, such processes and procedures include self-assessment and peer review; and

 

WHEREAS, self-assessment can provide valuable information regarding Public Works effectiveness and management system as well as a comparison of its policies, procedures and practices with those of nationally recognized public works entities; and

 

WHEREAS, peer review will provide an opportunity for a team of representatives from other public works entities to site inspect Public Works facilities, meet with the director and staff, objectively assess practices according to national standards and make recommendations for improving Public Works effectiveness; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department will derive numerous benefits from voluntary accreditation including, but not limited to, development of a proactive management system, improvement in employee satisfaction and professionalism, standardization of operations and management, periodic review of processes, policies and procedures and an increase in the publics awareness of Public Works responsibilities and functions; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare their support and endorsement of Public Works pursuit of voluntary accreditation; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the associates of the Kansas City, Missouri Public Works Department in recognition of their efforts to attain voluntary accreditation.
