RESOLUTION NO. 940099
Welcoming the American Bar Association to Kansas City for
its Mid-Year Meeting to be held on February 2-8, 1994.
WHEREAS, the American Bar Association will be
conducting its Mid-Year Meeting in Kansas City on February 2-8, 1994, and over
5,000 people are expected in Kansas City in conjunction with this meeting; and
WHEREAS, the American Bar Association last convened
here in 1937 at the Municipal Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, over 867 meetings and events will be
conducted during the Mid-Year Meeting with United States Attorney General Janet
Reno and American Bar Association President R. William Ide III expected to
participate in a major program addressing the legal needs of children; and
WHEREAS, the renowned Plaza lights will be turned on
Saturday night by American Bar Association dignitaries as a symbol to turn off
drugs; and
WHEREAS, many of Kansas City's other sites,
including the Hale Arena, the Nelson Art Gallery, and the Grand Emporium will
play host to various American Bar Association functions; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby welcome the
American Bar Association to Kansas City and hope that its members have an
enjoyable and productive meeting; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy be
presented to the American Bar Association as a token of the appreciation of the
Mayor and Council.
