RESOLUTION NO. 050772

 

Welcoming and saluting the investigative journalists visiting Kansas City on this Journalism Day at City Hall.

 

WHEREAS, on June 22-23, 2005, a number of visiting journalists from around the world will visit Kansas City, Missouri, as part of an International Visitor Multi-Regional Project, the focus of which is investigative journalism; and

 

WHEREAS, this event is sponsored by the International Visitors Council of Greater Kansas City and the U. S. Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in conjunction with local newspapers, radio and television stations and the University of Missouri School of Journalism with assistance and support from the City of Kansas City, Missouri Mayors Office on International Affairs and Protocol; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City extends a warm and heartfelt welcome to Hamida Ben Salah (the French Press Agency of Tunisia), Alenka Arko (Proplus-Pop TV of Slovenia), Peter Nyauke Shadrack (Dar es Salaam Television of Tanzania), Maimuna Saleh Gurin (Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation of Nigeria), Kola Khieu (Club of Cambodian Journalists), Prabaghan Rathnasabapathy (Virakesari of Sri Lanka), Ahmed Zahir Mohamed (Haveeru Daily of Maldives), Costin Octavian Ionescu (Human Rights Report on-line journal of Romania), Tawakul Abdulsalam Karman (National Organization for Defending Rights and Freedom of Yemen), Angelo Palmones (DZMM, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network of the Philippines), Intikhab Hanif Sheikh (Dawn of Pakistan), Raymond Archer (Ghanaian Chronicle), Washington Onyango Akumo (Daily Nation of Kenya), Yves Nicholas Van Der Haeghen (The Natal Witness of South Africa), Eddy Suprapto (Alliance of Independent Journalists of Indonesia), Oystein Pedersen (Volda University College of Norway), Daniel Kadowe Kalinaka (The Monitor of Uganda), Nina Kepeska (A1 TV and RfE of Macedonia), Dhurgham Mohammed Ali Sadiq (Al Mushraq of Iraq), Habibatou Gologo (Nouvel Horizon of Senegal), Vilim Cvok (24 Hours newspaper of Croatia), Milos Cermak (Lidove Noviny of the Czech Republic), Phuntsho Wangdi (Kuensel, Bhutans national newspaper), Bhutan and Lama Jamal Abseh (Al Dustour newspaper of Jordan). Accompanying the journalists are Department of State Language Officers; and

 

WHEREAS, our visitors will enjoy presentations, tours, and interaction with a number of local journalists before continuing to Columbia, Hermann and St. Louis; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council do welcome and salute the investigative journalists visiting Kansas City on this Journalism Day at City Hall; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread among the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the aforementioned journalists with the best wishes of the Mayor and Council.
