Designating The Week Of October 7 To 13, 1990 Fire
Prevention Week In Kansas City

WHEREAS, Each year the Kansas City, Missouri Fire
Department sets aside a week to apprise the people of this City of the
assistance they can render in the prevention of fires; and
WHEREAS, the entire Nation takes time to recognize
the skill and dedication of our Fire Service and their attempts to prevent
fires and save lives and property by the education of the general public; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Kansas City Fire
Department work to prevent fires and risk their lives to protect the property
and lives of all our citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is the duty and responsibility of all our
citizens, be it man, woman, or child, to use caution and care in the
maintenance of property, and to maintain a working smoke detector so as to
prevent the loss of life, suffering, and the destruction of irreplaceable
property, and
WHEREAS, virtually all fires can be prevented by the
careful planning and implementation of safety procedures; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council of Kansas City proclaim
the week of October 7 through October 13, 1990 as Fire Prevention Week in
Kansas City and urge all the citizens of this community to enter into a
personal campaign on their own property to relieve the hazards and conditions
that exist which would create a dangerous fire hazard; to check and regularly
maintain a working smoke detector; and in this small way help our Fire
Department make our City a safer place in which to live and work.
