RESOLUTION NO. 010578

 

Honoring Club Cabaret, and in particular, owners John Sidoti and John Brook, and personality John Flo Koop for their commitment to finding a cure for AIDS.

 

WHEREAS, since 1990, John Sidoti, John Brook and Club Cabaret have been raising money for the community. They give back to this community. Every Sunday evening for the past eight years, John Flo Koop has dazzled the audience and made them want to contribute to worthy causes; and

 

WHEREAS, they have raised over $30,000.00 for the Kansas City Free Health Clinic, over $20,000.00 for the Kansas City Aids Research Consortium and this past Sunday, April 8th, they reached their goal of raising $400,000.00 for amfAR. In fact, Club Cabaret is the largest fundraising club in the world for amfAR; and

 

WHEREAS, the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) is the nation's leading non-profit organization dedicated to the support of HIV/AIDS research, AIDS prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy. With its freedom and flexibility to respond quickly to emerging opportunities and its determination to invest in cutting-edge science, amfAR plays a unique, catalytic role in accelerating the pace of HIV/AIDS research and achieving real breakthroughs while being funded by voluntary contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. AmfAR has invested nearly $175 million in support of its mission since 1985 and funded grants to over 1,850 research teams worldwide; and

 

WHEREAS, amfAR's mission is to prevent HIV infection and the disease and death associated with it and to protect the human rights of all people threatened by the epidemic of HIV/AIDS; and

WHEREAS, Club Cabaret should be commended for its commitment to the worthy cause of finding a cure for HIV/AIDS and for giving back to the community; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Club Cabaret, and in particular, owners John Sidoti and John Brook, and personality John Flo Koop for their commitment to finding a cure for AIDS; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the Club Cabaret, owners John Sidoti and John Brook, and John Flo Koop with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for all the hard work they have done in the community.
