RESOLUTION NO. 010699

 

Recognizing Central Cadet Clubs participation in the National Young Leaders Conference.

 

WHEREAS, seven members of the Central Cadet Club traveled to Washington, D.C., for the National Young Leaders Conference last month; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cadets joined approximately 380 students from around the country to discuss, in a political setting modeled after the U.S. government, issues faced by their communities. Students were divided into Republicans and Democrats and elected to various offices; and

 

WHEREAS, the Central Cadets received a large proportion of high offices including two Presidents, one Vice-President, one Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, one Minority Whip and two Supreme Court Justices; and

 

WHEREAS, the seven Central Cadets are as follows and what they accomplished at the National Young Leaders Conference: Raquel Abrought was an attorney, Leonard Casey was elected President, Keanna Conway was elected a Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Derwin Finley was elected Vice-President, Lynda French was elected Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Bernard Jackson was appointed a Supreme Court Justice, and Bruce Lane was elected President, and Major Gene Briseno accompanied as cadet coordinator; and

 

WHEREAS, Central High School is one of 60 LINC-support school sites with Willie Bowie, Principal, and Rudy Summerville, site coordinator; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Central Cadet Clubs participation in the National Young Leaders Conference; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the Central Cadet Club with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council for the exceptional job that they did in Washington and for the example they are setting for all youth in Kansas City.
