COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 060550

 

Directing the City Manager to develop options for funding the Neighborhood and Community Services Department in order to address the backlog of demolitions of dangerous buildings to provide for a safe and healthy community.

 

WHEREAS, there are approximately 330 demolition cases currently open in the Dangerous Buildings Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the average demolition cost of a building is $8,000.00; and

 

WHEREAS, demolition of these structures is needed in order to provide for a safe and healthy community; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to develop options for funding the Neighborhood and Community Services Department in order to address the backlog of demolitions of dangerous buildings that pose an imminent threat to public safety.

 

Section 2. That the City Manager will report this determination to the Council within two (2) weeks.
