Recognizing and honoring Mark Huffer after nearly 14 years of employment at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority.

WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mark Huffer created the regions’ first child care/transit center at 39th & Troost and he championed technological improvements at the KCATA, including real-time passenger information at over 150 Metro and MAX stops, on-board security cameras, and maintenance management systems; and

WHEREAS, Mark Huffer worked to stave off transit service reductions and expand service throughout the City, through the renewal of the 1/2-cent sales tax for transit and a passage of an additional 3/8-cent sales tax to support KCATA operations; and

WHEREAS, Mark Huffer has been a steward of the environment and has advocated for a judicious use of public funds by promoting the conversion of KCATA’s diesel fleet to compressed natural gas which is projected to save millions of dollars on fuel costs when fully implemented; and

WHEREAS, under Mark Huffer’s leadership, the KCATA conducted a Comprehensive Service Analysis which allowed the KCATA to better match the transit needs of users resulting greater ridership efficiency throughout the City; NOW, THEREFORE,
